48 lights scattered in different locations, corresponding to the 48 non-center cubie faces of a Rubik's cube. The lights change color as the virtual cube gets turned. Perhaps a fixed color border on each light stating the goal color. Perhaps an annotation stating where on a cube the light represents.
Large piece of interactive art.
Perhaps make the locations mimic the layout of a cube, e.g., rooms in a 3 story building.
Controls might also be distributed. Perhaps pick two cubie faces to designate twisting in that direction.
User cannot see the entire cube at once, so needs to travel around to examine or operate the cube, and to have good memory and visualization skills. This could make speedcubing an athletic competition, needing to sprint between locations, vaguely similar to Condi chess.
Because the cube is virtual, it could be replaced with any other shape, even those not physically realizable. Maybe 4D.
