Does America have a social class similar to the burakumin of Japan or the untouchable caste in India?

Prostitutes, strippers, adult film actors, porn models.

Once in those professions, there are barriers to leaving them for more "respectable" careers.  Try getting a job as a school teacher or elected or appointed to public office.  Or, you will get fired if your past is discovered. It is considered disrespectable to marry them.

There is a notion that it is not just a profession, but that the people themselves are inherently dirty or tainted.  Don't let them near your children, or they will corrupt them (e.g., Charlie Sheen's babysitter).

All this stems from shame in promiscuity.
