Create a music player (or app) which privately keeps track of which artists and composers you play. Use song recognition techniques to fill in unknown or incorrect names.
Pick a dollar donation amount per month for which music is in general worth to you, and the app automatically divides it by artist according to minutes played (or any other criteria under your control), and sends the donation.
This is one technique by which artists could still get compensated even if copyright protection were very weak. It does rely on people's good will.
Generalizing, this technique could also be useful for compensating authors of software, particularly free open source software. The operating system keeps track of which software you use. Tricky about how to count daemon software.
Same idea: Donation Log
