[tyrnrwea] trained how to fall

gymnasts learn early in their gymnastics training how to fall to minimize injury.  (likely also other sports.)  does such training help much later in life, when one is old and falls become common (again)?  it might be possible to measure this statistically, though it seems tricky.  does muscle memory persist after many decades?  does training to minimize injury from gymnastics apparatus help minimize injury from stairs and other "apparatus" that plague the elderly?
