general relativity causes elliptical orbits to precess (famously Mercury), and worse, causes all orbits to decay via gravitational radiation.
how things have changed from planets locked in unchanging crystal spheres.
in 4D and above, there are no stable orbits even with Newtonian gravity (inverse cube law, etc.), though I don't know the details.
in 3D general relativity (2 space dimensions and 1 time), there is no gravitational radiation. initially I thought the experimental observation of gravitational waves disproves the holographic principle; however, that principle concerns mapping 11 dimensions down to something less than 11, the latter number (presumably) still large enough to have gravitational waves.
