Virtually depict a Rubik's cube in exploded form, with each cubie colored in all 6 colors. This makes it a supercube, with orientation mattering for the face center cubies. Or, hidden faces could be colorless, making things less confusing. Vaguely inspired by the Magic Cube 4D Java application.
For higher-order cubes, e.g., 5x5, it presents an additional challenge of orienting correctly the cubies in the inner 3x3 cube, analogous to the magnet cube composed of dice or Carl Hoff's Double Circle Real5x5x5.
Other shapes (Megaminx)? A Megaminx could be depicted as an exploded collection of dodecahedra.
Other dimensions? In Magic Cube 4D, the screen is already full of cubes depicting just the "surface" of a tesseract; more might be unwelcome. In 2 dimensions, the only available rotation is 180 degrees, or a reflection.
