Assuming relativity correct, the universe imposes a maximum speed, namely the speed of light. Curiously, it does not analogously impose a maximum on acceleration. (Or maybe it does: perhaps acceleration beyond c divided by Planck time, i.e., Planck acceleration, is prohibited.)
Within a black hole's event horizon, you could accelerate indefinitely at Graham's Number meters/sec^2 but still never escape. Unclear how one would build an thruster capable of such acceleration.
