[ncelfpdq] Education not to create assembly line workers

I've heard criticism that the American education system is now obsolete because it was designed to produce good workers for the manufacturing sector, work that is now done by robots.

Assuming the criticism is correct, how should education be overhauled?  What kind of people do we want it to produce?
