[vbmkxaya] Closed source has affected microprocessor design

Closed source means one cannot easily recompile for your computer's processor.  All you have is a binary.  Processor manufacturers, in order to sell their product, design their processors to bend over backwards to run these legacy binaries fast.  Software writers and compiler writers generate even more convoluted code to take advantage of, or not be disadvantaged by, these complicated instruction sets.  It's a vicious cycle when the next generation of processor comes around, leading to monopolies in hardware and software.

This is Bill Gates's legacy.

Can we make closed source illegal, in the same way it is illegal to sell food without giving the ingredients list?
