when an enemy has been beaten to below 1 HP, let it count as defeated for all official purposes, but you can still keep attacking its lifeless body. further attacks reduce enemy HP asymptotically toward zero in fractional values, but never reaching zero. scientific notation. geometric progression (negative exponential).
inspired by flashy demonstrations of combat techniques in Zelda BOTW, gamers showing off their skill at quickly inflicting massive amounts of damage. but the amount of damage they can show off is capped at enemy HP.
perhaps this can also help comply with Disney standards of violence: characters never die, only get knocked unconscious. they recover at the next blood moon.
