There was a brief glimpse of light in the late 90s with the proliferation of P2P software such as Napster, et al., when it looked like the flow of information might not remain controlled by a few giant media companies. That light got extinguished by lawsuits and legislation, and now we have Facebook, Apple, Google, etc., as well as a few traditional companies controlling most of the media people see, as well as having and exercising powerful editorial ability to restrict what people see.
