On a chess diagram, for each piece, annotate the piece with text of the move that brought the piece to where it is now: move number, origin square, capture. Also for captured pieces off to the side.
Could provide more history than just one move: complete history in a scrolling marquee.
Vaguely similar to annotating a move in a game similarly.
