A composer composes a song literally in support of one side of a conflict, and it becomes an anthem for that side.
However, the composer accidentally does too well, creating good art: good art is universal, transcending time, space, and political and cultural boundaries. The theme of struggle in the face of adversity, interpreted metaphorically instead of literally, resonates with the other side of the conflict as well, and the song becomes an anthem for them, too.
Has this ever happened?
Inspired by, what if Nina Simone's "Strange Fruit" were interpreted metaphorically? Who would it, could it inspire?
