Create a Usenet newsreader client that mimics the look and function of Reddit.

The metadata tagging messages (e.g., up and down votes) can happen on the newsgroup itself, or on a separate dedicated newsgroup (e.g., foo.bar.metadata-tagging) in case the former is moderated or otherwise wants to avoid such messages.  Perhaps use only the alt.* hierarchy: bring some order to its chaos.

The problem facing a new user of deciding which metadata tags to trust is open-ended, but discussed on this previous post.  Some central coordination to bootstrap the process might be useful.

The underlying message system need not be Usenet: it could (and should be abstractly implemented to) use any threaded forum.  Ideally, it should be a distributed system (like Usenet) to lessen censorship.
