Is it just a coincidence that the scientific experiments deemed too unethical to do are precisely the ones that would have monumental significance, possibly be hugely disruptive to society, if the results were known? Often experiments investigating human psychology and human behavior.
The deep and somewhat sinister hypothesis is that some uncharacterized force has somehow defined our ethics to avoid us learning certain things, perhaps for the purpose of avoiding social disruption, to maintain the social status quo. What causes our ethics to be what it is?
There could be less sinister explanations.
