[vpktweph] Species is realistic

The mechanism of alien invasion depicted in the film Species is the most realistic I can think of.

Transporting matter, especially living matter, across interstellar distances using rockets is absurdly difficult, but transmitting information is easy (almost, too easy).  So, to transport an organism, the best way to do it is to transmit the information describing the organism (e.g., DNA sequence) then use a matter fabricator already at the destination.  Life is one possible matter fabricator.

It will be a considerable challenge to trick the destination organisms to input the received information into their matter fabricator (e.g., splice alien DNA into a human embryo as in the movie), but studying the destination organisms' psychology and learning how to manipulate them can be done remotely through, say, watching their TV.  As preposterous as it sounds, successfully doing this kind of social engineering from extreme distance is still easier than building a starship.

Is this how the human race will reach the stars someday?

Is the dysfunction of our current society of extraterrestrial origin?
