Assume wages are correlated with social class through the mechanism that upper classes promote those around whom they are comfortable to higher paying jobs.

Then, can the wage gap between men and women be entirely explained by social class?  The other piece of the puzzle is the hypothesis that women in higher social classes choose not to work, compared to men of the equivalent social class.
