Of course, the public key of a celebrity can easily be established by printing it (or its fingerprint) on widely sold physical merchandise and memorabilia.
Timestamping could be established by merchandise, too. Include the fingerprint of a database of autographs on the latest merchendise. However, without a Bitcoin-like mechanism to transfer ownership, a digital autograph does not become a thing of value, i.e., something which can be sold to others.
Could a celebrity establish a private cryptocurrency solely as memorabilia? The block chain gets confirmed by people who want to preserve the value of an autograph they own.
