Hypothesize that the phenomenon of religious leaders, e.g., Catholic priests and Jewish rabbis, molesting children is a relatively new phenomenon, not something that has been going on for thousands of years.
But people were just as bad in the past: the hypothesis is that, previously, they were abusing their power to rape women, who had a similar lack of power and second- (or last-) class citizenship as children do now. If true, children have become abused more as an unintended negative consequence of the women's rights movement.
The underlying issue is the seemingly unavoidable interaction between power and sex.
