How can we increase transparency in government? Inspired by Obama's failed promise of transparency.
One way might simply be to provide more funding to support getting Freedom Of Information Act requests answered quickly and thoroughly. Perhaps more "teeth" so that the government cannot hide information from a request.
Transparency is not something that a government can be expected to do well unilaterally. It should be adversarial. Journalists are important.
We need some analogue of freedom of information for the legislative branch, so that the people can transparently understand the why a law was passed. I suspect a lot of sleazy motivations will be revealed, if we could only compel legislators to tell the truth.
