[wvfhchnr] Advertising versus freedom

Ad-supported internet content is fundamentally opposed to free (as in freedom) and open content and platforms (as best as I can tell).  Assuming we move toward the latter (fixing copyright), the former will collapse: people will just remove the ads and redistribute.

So much of our content is built on ads (e.g., all of Google, Facebook), so it will seem a radical change.  We will need new ways of revenue, perhaps public funding based on measured use or consumption.

Every advertisement you see is an instance of lack of freedom.
