Plan B (levonorgestrel) is unsafe if not taken as directed. But all over-the-counter drugs are dangerous if not taken as directed.
How unsafe is Plan B compared to other OTC drugs? Can the potential for incorrect use be addressed by better packaging or labeling, or an education campaign? How does the expected amount of benefit to the population compare with the expected amount of harm?
Answers to these questions are noticeably absent in the conservative opposition against making Plan B available on the shelves.
