[umkgctll] Drug legalization and copyright

TV, and likely other entertainment media, stimulate the same addictive pleasure centers as many recreational drugs, e.g., heroin.  It probably has similar effects on society in lost productivity.

Because drugs are illegal, TV (etc.) thus has a monopoly on achieving this kind of pleasure.  This brings in a great deal of income for the entertainment industry, thus giving them a great deal of power.  And with that power, they influence legislation promoting strong, stifling copyright, cementing their power in place.

Perhaps they also influence legislation keeping drugs illegal.  All those anti-drug ads you see on TV may not be with the best of intentions: Keep taking our drug, not theirs!

Reform of drug laws and copyright are related.  Perhaps achieving one will help achieve the other.
