I dislike the UI sluggishness and unpredictability of touchscreens. As a stopgap measure, have a real time process which echoes the detected gesture (tap, double tap, drag, swipe, etc.) with different colors to the screen. It remains on screen until the gesture is consumed by an app, and then fades out quickly.
