We consider the consequences of the man divorcing his wife in favor of a younger woman, and what happens if everybody did this.

The older, discarded, women would probably form communes for mutual support and reducing living expenses, perhaps communal child rearing.  Things might not turn out so badly for them.

Younger women become in excessively high demand, being courted by all males, instead of just those approximately their age.  Here is where things get interesting.  Three possibilities might happen:

1. Many leftover unpaired males.  This may cause tremendous problems for society, because the angry young men are troublemakers.  (Unpaired older women are not?) To prevent this, the next two possibilities might occur:
2. Disproportionate number of females becoming born, due to sex-selective abortion and male infanticide.  (The opposite of what is happening in countries such as China and India.)
3. Polygamy of a single woman paired with many males.  Again the opposite of more famous form of polygamy.
