Human parents must care for their children because humans take a very long time (cf. other animals) to develop into adulthood. Child molesters love children (sometimes their own) very much, in a perverse way. Speculate that the genetic and biochemical mechanisms for both the normal and perverse behavior are related, or the same. If so, evolutionary selection preventing child molesters from procreating (imprisonment, chemical castration) may slowly be eliminating the genes for parents to love and care for their children, with eventual disastrous consequences.
