In ancient Rome, any educated citizen was qualified to be a lawyer to speak on behalf of a defendent in trial. (There's the story of a Roman soldier selecting the Emperor himself to defend him. He lost the trial.)
We do not have that now. Should we? Should the law be reduced enough so that anyone making it through the compulsory education system graduates knowing the entirety of the law?
It will make for some well-educated juries.
