[krurgiup] porn reflects nurture

we (probably) cannot easily observe the nurture which induces sexual preferences, but, if it weren't for censorship, we could observe the demand for pornography it causes.

the wide range of types of pornography that are popular reflects the wide range of nurture people experience.

nurture probably includes things like how society is structured.  people likely seek from porn what society prevents them from accessing in real life.

changes in demand for different types of porn reflect changes in nurture, changes in society.

censorship of pornography therefore thwarts measuring and documenting very important data.

for example, assume the demand for child pornography and the creation of child molesters have a common underlying social cause.  (this is a controversial assumption; some claim there is causality from the former to the latter.)  are society's efforts toward producing fewer child molesters working?  or are we making things worse, producing more of them?  this could be measured by measuring the amount of consumption of child pornography.  it is very important to know if society is getting better or worse.  (is society actually making any effort to produce fewer child molesters?)

while "what is porn?" is the question for the ages (e.g., does fantasizing over real estate count as porn?), the relevant porn here is the porn that is censored, or more broadly, porn which is difficult to measure production and consumption.
