[nmdkjvzy] life magically finds a way

evolution over sufficiently long time spans is indistinguishable from magic.

inspired by the microorganisms (and also macroorganisms in symbiotic relationship, e.g., modern termites) who took 60 million years to evolve a way to digest wood, during which time -- the Carboniferous period -- dead trees did not decay but instead piled up and up.

biochar is proposed as a method of carbon sequestration: no current soil microorganisms can digest elemental carbon.  but for how long?
