Coat a baseball with reflective paint containing cubical crystals that act as retroreflectors.
Shoot at the ball with a laser (probably infrared) gun that emits a specific signal in the time domain. Search for the reflected response in a detector. The goal of course is to hit the ball. The tricky part is that thousands of other people might be shooting at the ball with different signals, which may errantly reflect into your detector. Fourier transform to filter them out.
