[qmzjztay] Rationality of virginity

Research which of the reasons people give for "saving themselves" for sex until engagement or marriage can be rationally supported.

I strongly suspect the "feeling of specialness" of having sex with someone you really like is undiminished by the number of previous partners one has had, and that this effect has a relatively simple biological mechanism.

One can also collect stories of people who regret whichever choice they made, and why.  It may be that virginity is a rationally correct decision for some people, but not others.  What are the circumstances that determine it?  (Pessimistically, because actually no one wants to have sex with you, perhaps because of social mechanisms far beyond your control.)
