It should be relatively easy to set up a rating system for computer programming contests. The weaker contestant gets a time advantage according to rating difference, kind of like handicap stones in go 囲碁.
Or, pit similarly rated contestants against one another. Perhaps a league system where similarly rated contestants compete in the same league with promotion and relegation between leagues like European soccer.
Somewhat inspired by a hope of making it a spectator sport. People like nerds.
