Society naturally develops mechanisms to destroy, marginalize, and ridicule brilliant individuals. If not, brilliant individuals accreting power will achieve change, and all the stakeholders of the status quo don't want that.
Everyone is a stakeholder in the status quo. Change represents risk, the unknown future. Change might make things better, but it might make things worse. Better not risk it.
The sinister aspect is everyone is born brilliant.
