[pxjmkeln] Less complicated filesystems

Filesystems are getting awfully complicated (snapshots, extended attributes, protections, links).  Is there a better architecture that the different features can be separated and layered or composed?

What should the base, simplest filesystem provide?  Flat structure, numbered blocks of fixed size?  (This seems too simple.)  Locking and other transaction primitives.
