Two people get together for a romantic date. But instead of going to see a show or eating at a restaurant, they get together in front of a computer and fix a bug in open source software.
The inspiration comes from Pair Programming, a practice which has two computer programmers working together, thought to be more effective than separately because they can discuss the problem and catch each other's mistakes.
My analysis of pair programming is that it only works if the pair can tolerate each other. Coincidentally, the point of dating, pair programming or not, is also to discover precisely this.
Plus, after you're done, you've contributed something useful to the world, instead of merely lightening you wallet.
