[ffehrjas] Nearly singular natural matrices

Are there natural physical processes for which describing them mathematically require nearly singular matrices?  This is (knowingly) a vague question.

Are there situations where nature can distinguish between 0 and "nearly zero" at very high precision?  Or "equal" and "nearly equal"?

Omit chaotic processes?

Is it always the problem of some human-made assumption or formulation?
