Having entirely ridded yourself of want, you no longer get what you want, in particular you no longer have want satisfied by the action of another, who deserves thanks.
This certainly grates against social convention and seems at odds with western philosophy and religion: "Thank God!" "Praise Jesus!" I suspect Jesus achieved nirvana; the message has gotten twisted along the way.
