Society seems to have restructured itself so that prostitutes are trapped at the bottom, least respected rungs of society. Courtesans are no longer possible.
Is this an improvement?
A random observation: we do tend to teach girls to sing and dance a lot more than boys. is this a vestige of this long-gone era?
