[ombyyxiu] Depressions and Freedom

We are letting the entertainment industry curtail, via copyright, trademark, DRM, etc., many of our fundamental freedoms: freedom of speech, freedom to create, freedom to innovate.

However, maybe things will reset themselves during the next Great Depression.  Entertainment companies now have so much power because they have so much money.  People spend only their surplus income on entertainment: during a Depression there won't be much surplus income, so their power to create law (via lobbying) and enforce their created law (via lawsuit) will be greatly reduced, and our freedom will increase.  Greater freedom is often good for the economy, so may accelerate recovery from the next Great Depression.
