Nobel Prizes

You have to be alive to win the Nobel Prize, but until exactly what moment in time? When the Committee records its final vote? Or when the phone call from Sweden rings? What if time-of-death cannot be determined to sufficient precision? Perhaps you must be presumed to be alive just before the committee casts its final vote, but then, how diligently beforehand does the committee check?

...

In keeping with tradition, it would be funny if the medal itself for Chemistry were always presented in the form of a solution in aqua regia. When else do you get the opportunity to award a chemist a hunk of gold?
