pick an air temperature. instrument an animal with a body temperature sensor and then make it run.
at what air temperature can the animal maintain for 12 hours an average speed greater than a human can at that temperature? (it might be simpler to assume human speed does not depend on temperature.)
humans' persistence hunting advantage goes down as air temperature goes down: the fur-covered animal becomes less likely to overheat. at what temperature is persistence hunting no longer effective? we are testing the theory that humans evolved to be persistence hunters: do the conditions in which persistence hunting is effective occur too rarely in location and time of year to be generally useful?
