for any dial combination lock (e.g., safe lock, combination padlock, locker lock) whose canonical instructions specify first turning N times in a certain direction, then alternating direction of turns, there should be another combination that does each turn in the opposite direction, still alternating directions.  the numbers will be different, perhaps by the width of the teeth between the wheels.  all that matters is that all gates arrive under the fence; it does not matter from which direction they approached.
