by some mechanism, the magic decreases as the game progresses, and players explore building or maintaining a world that gets closer and closer to the Real World.
perhaps players will come up with innovative mechanisms that can be applied to the Real World.
more likely, the consequences of removing magic explain why the Real World is the way it is, perhaps why we can't have nice things.
