Tiktok's massive success can in part be ascribed to how it enabled creators to easily create derivative works, filming their own video over existing audio. (Tiktok previously Musical.ly.)
the Free Culture movement is vindicated. Tiktok is proof that copyright has stood, and is still standing, in the way of amazing things, the creation and advancement of culture.
(Tiktok has (probably) managed to keep copyright lawsuits at bay through what appears to be a combination of uninteresting and obvious ways, e.g., 15 second clips, though they deserve credit for recognizing that that was enough, and implementing it.)
