[rmjuvbzl] It's not a light saber; it's telekinesis

A muggle gets a hold of a light saber and discovers that it doesn't do anything other than emit light.  The beam does not cut at all.

The cutting had always been accomplished by telekinesis using the Force.  The light saber was merely a tool to help guide where to apply the Force, perhaps like a laser sight on a rifle.

It's frightening that Jedi have always had the ability to just randomly slash things around themselves using only their minds.  Don't get them drunk.

Along that vein, a light saber might also be like training wheels on a bike: once you get good at the Force like Yoda or the Emperor, you don't need a light saber anymore.
