We build a space station, rotating for artificial gravity, then later abandon it: perhaps onward to bigger and better. It keeps rotating. What happens over the years? Worst case scenario is it disintegrates with pieces flying off like a lawn sprinkler, then Kessler Syndrome.
Optimistically the disintegrating pieces get absorbed into the non-rotating shielding around the old space station, shielding that was for protection against radiation, asteroids, and space war. Pessimistically, that shielding has been scavenged and removed for the construction of the next bigger and better space station.
