When is it good to work on a project in a team rather than alone?
- subdividable tasks
- trying several solutions to a problem in parallel e.g., brainstorming
- specialized tasks for specialized people
- when getting stuck is likely, then team members can discuss and provide inspiration for one another
- when getting feedback quickly (not necessarily good feedback) is important
- providing training, making more than 1 person familiar with the subject
Teams should be structured with explicit team goals, listing some of the reasons above. In particular, things like the last point cause a short-term loss in productivity, inefficiency, as the less-familiar members consume resources as they learn.
