Certain (perhaps all?) employment fields being correlated with certain social classes is an example of economic path dependence, as as prospective new employees choose to work with those whom they can get along with, with those who will treat the new employee as One Of Us.
This effect very likely results in an inefficient allocation of labor. At first glance, this seems extremely difficult to change, because people's social class discrimination behaviors are extremely difficult to change.
Somehow move a whole group into a different field all at once, together.
