Problem occurred with Asus VivoPC VM40b (silver mini-PC): wireless internet just disappeared, immediately after reset to factory settings. No wifi adapter seen in Windows 10 settings, booting with Ubuntu USB stick sees no wireless network device with lspci or lshw.
Things tried: Windows Update (over ethernet); power down, unplug and remove all connections, open up case, remove HDD and put back in; disabled WLAN adapter in BIOS, reboot, reenable WLAN in BIOS. Wifi then worked. The last step probably did the trick though not sure.
