Given a song that uses only the notes in a heptatonic scale (no accidentals), it can easily be transposed (by note number in the scale) to all keys and modes (including alternate heptatonic scales). Many of the transpositions may sound pretty weird. Multiple voices allow modal counterpoint.
Ascending melodic minor = heptatonia secunda; descending = natural minor / Aeolian mode.
